CDT Gear List
Some Thoughts On Gear:
While I have been accused more than once of being an outdoor gear head, really I find that gear is just a tool in one’s kit that aids in the journey. Many people focus entirely too much on gear and think that the “right” gear will make the difference between a successful trip or non-successful trip. While having the proper gear for the conditions will keep you safe and comfortable, I myself have been amazed at what others have accomplished with little to no gear or old tattered gear that was long past its functional life in my opinion.
When I look for a new piece of gear I look for 3 main categories that it must satisfy:
- Light Weight
- Affordability
- High Quality
– Materials Used
– Construction
I generally weigh all three parameters equally and then ask myself if the item I am replacing is necessary and then I tend to buy the highest quality item I can afford. The old adage of take good care of your gear and it will take care of you is very true. Personally I tend to buy good gear, care for it well by keeping it clean and in good working order and then use it until it needs to be replaced.
